Biography
I am Associate Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. My research asks how voices become socially meaningful—and why some speakers are granted less freedom to be interpreted on their own terms.
My work on deaf and hard-of-hearing speakers combines acoustic analysis, interviews, ethnography, and discourse analysis. A second line of work examines racialized listening, especially the circulation and reception of Vietnamese-accented Mandarin in Taiwan. I also study language ideologies, mobility, and political identity across Taiwan, Kinmen, and Singapore.
Before linguistics, I trained in human geography. That background still shapes how I think about language as something people do in bodies, technologies, institutions, and places—not as an isolated system.
